I know the importance of skin to skin to make breastfeeding and bonding the most amazing experience it can be, I have been through the challenges of having a premature baby and also the adventures in tandem nursing ☺️ Looking forward to helping others on this very rewarding journey x

Hello Stephen here :-D Been in Queenstown a little over 4 years and we are just going for residency at the moment!! I love computer gaming, U.F.C. and Dancing. I BMX to work and walk as fast as I can up the Gondola at least twice a week before work! Hopefully I'm painting a picture that I'm your average bizarre bloke ;-). I'm married to Francesca and we have an amazing little girl who has a dairy allergy that took 3 months to diagnose. This made life quite interesting for us. We tried breast feeding and now we bottle feed because there were too many variables while breast feeding to be able to get Nina well. She is now a VERY happy smiley 1 year old who says Hi to everybody she meets :-) If your the bloke half of a family struggling with breastfeeding, or having a new baby, I'd be very happy to chat stuff over with you. I can do it over a coffee, on a bike, in front of the tv or on a walk. Your choice :-) See you around.

Babies are born to breastfeed and what else are boobs for? But it is not always as simple as that. Having had a baby that showed no interest in breastfeeding and then the oh so many challenges that ensued started Catkin on her journey of supporting other mothers and families. Every mother and every baby is different and she appreciates that mothers deep down know what is best for them, their baby and their family and can decide on their own priorities. Catkin feels fortunate to be in a position to provide support and information to mothers and also to train the wonderful volunteer breastfeeding peer supporters from which she continues to learn so much. Catkin is based in Queenstown as both a peer supporter and the peer support administrator.

Hi, I live at Kaka Point with my partner, Mark, and have two children: Bay born in 2011 and Esmé born in 2015. When I breastfed Bay as a first time mum it was a steep learning curve - a lot of things that I was concerned about were actually totally normal for a breastfed baby - weight, sleeping, feeding patterns, etc. I decided to become a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter to help other mums, whatever their feeding choices are, to be confident, informed and supported whether that means breastfeeding for a few days or many years.

Hi! I have recently completed the peer support training programme that was run in Balclutha. I am a 25 year old mother of one very active 13 month old son, currently still on maternity leave so we are making the most of this special time together spending our days getting out and about and discovering our own backyard. I am excited to be able to support parents to reach their own breastfeeding goals. I did not think I would be so passionate about breastfeeding but my own breastfeeding journey has shown me just how wonderful of an experience it is for mother and baby. Even though it is a wonderful experience I know how hard it can be to get going, and to continue, and I am looking forward to supporting you through the good and the bad. Please call/text/email if you would like to meet up or chat about anything. Amazing what a cup of tea and a chat can solve sometimes!

I live in Oamaru with my partner Rod and our youngest school age son. Between us we have 4 boys and I am step Nana to gorgeous twin girls. I enjoy growing my own veges, getting creative in the garden, burying my nose in a book, holidays in the mountains, watching an inter-school rugby game and looking after and riding my beautiful horse. I am a Nurse at the Oamaru Maternity Centre, where I am mainly involved in the first few days of breastfeeding and baby care. I also facilitate ante-natal 'Breastfeeding Basics' groups, free of charge at the Maternity Centre, drawing on my skills as a Childbirth Educator, my work at the Centre and my continuing studies of anything related to breastfeeding. My volunteer work as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter in the community sometimes sees me helping parents I already know, which serves as a great ice-breaker! A mother of boys never has her mobile phone very far from her hands, so please feel free to contact me should you need to talk about your breastfeeding journey, which is always a privilege to share.

I was born and spent my childhood in South Africa, lived in Australia for 16 years and now living in New Zealand. I am a mum of two children who were both born in Sydney, Australia. My breastfeeding journeys' for both my children were very different experiences and interesting challenges. My background is Social Work and have spent most of my professional life working within the youth work sector. I am currently a "stay at home mum" whilst my partner works "fly in fly out" based back in Australia. This has allowed me to enjoy spending as much time with my children and also take on volunteer roles such as Breastfeeding Peer Support. I look forward to getting to know you!

Hi, I am 6 months into my journey of motherhood...WOW! There is so much to learn and what an amazing body us females have...magical! I have a wee buba girl called Ahri and we are based in Wanaka :). I have become so interested (OK obsessed) with boobies and babies and just how amazing our bodies are! To me breastfeeding is so important in so many ways. I could talk about it forever, but I won't bore you ;). I come from the UK so I know how isolating those first few months can be with no family around as support. So, I guess my main drive is to be that friend who can be called upon at any time, any day for chats, tea, advice and of course I have a great pair of listening ears :). I have a passion for helping others and empowering woman to be confident in themselves and the choices they make :) Have a beautiful day, I look forward to meeting you :)

I have had a wonderful experience breastfeeding my daughter so far but I know not everyone has had a positive breastfeeding experience. I want to support other mothers in my local community on their journey, and work towards normalising breastfeeding. I believe that women should be empowered to make their own choices in regards to their parenting and should have as much support as possible. I am currently a stay-at-home-mum, I was a teacher before (9 years teaching) and am passionate about being involved in the community and developing a culture of positive open discussion around breastfeeding and parenting choices. I trained to be a peer supporter in 2012, as I wanted to help other Mums to achieve their feeding goals and help with any breastfeeding issues they might have. My oldest son was born by emergency c-section and I struggled to breast feed him. My younger three children all fed into their toddler years and I have experience of breastfeeding while pregnant and tandem feeding.

Although she struggled for the first six months, she made it to a year and is still breastfeeding. She would like to support other mothers with multiples to reach their breastfeeding goals. Victoria has experience feeding twins separately and together, coping with having babies in NICU, pumping to establish her milk supply and dealing with tongue ties that were diagnosed late. Victoria is very happy to receive emails or text messages but, as she works full time at the University, she may not be able to answer or reply until the evening.

I trained as a peer supporter in 2011 and have regularly volunteered at The Breast Room since it began and have helped with the management of it since November 2015. I have also visited several families through the antenatal breastfeeding classes and had countless conversations with friends and family about various challenges and joys that arise during a woman’s breastfeeding journey. I am mum to three delightful girls, Stella, Gretel and Lola – all of whom delight and challenge me and keep me on my toes on a regular basis. My husband, Steven and I own Nectar Cafe, the first café to be featured on the BURP app, and any pregnant mum popping in for a coffee or lunch is as likely to have a conversation around breastfeeding with Steven as she is to have a flat white! I am looking forward to training future peer supporters and expanding the support networks for breastfeeding families within Dunedin and North Otago.

I live in Waldronville with my husband, and three children aged 7, 5, and 5.I am very passionate about supporting parents, especially in those early days when everything feels so overwhelming. I chose to do this course so that I could support friends, family, and the wider community with their breastfeeding journey. You can never have too much support when it comes to breastfeeding and learning how it will work for you and your family. I have had experience with oversupply, undersupply. latch issues, traumatic birth, breastfeeding post csection, finger feeding, chronic blocked ducts, pumping milk, breastfeeding around surgery, extended breastfeeding, and also making the difficult decision to stop breastfeeding long before I wanted to. I work part time during the day but am available in the evenings.

Kia Ora, my name is Emma! I am passionate about breastfeeding and really love supporting women to reach their goals. Knowing personally, what a difference the right support and informed choice can make, I decided I'd like to be a part of that. I've had 3 c sections, and just never got the help I needed to latch and feed my first daughter, so exclusively pumped and tube/finger fed, then bottles for about 4 months, before moving on to formula, but, have successfully breastfed my 2nd now for 4 years, that journey includes (asking an array of other things), nursing through my next pregnancy and tandem feeding my now 2yo as well, which has been a challenge and delight! I'm in my mid-30s. I love babywearing and enjoy being an active member of our community which includes play centre and parent help at school. Some of my hobbies include doing all things crafty and fostering animals. I live at Company Bay with my fiance and 3 amazing daughters (11yo, 4yo, and 2yo), with a bunch of fur babies too. You can contact me via my cell phone (please don't bother leaving voice mail), texting is fine too. Or email. Hello! I am one of the Peer Support Programme Administrators for the Dunedin area. I have a school-aged child, a grown up son and a granddaughter, and live with my family and our dogs in Macandrew Bay. I qualified with a Diploma in Breastfeeding Counselling from the University of Bedfordshire in the UK and have been working with breastfeeding families in the UK and NZ for around 12 years. I created the Breast Room in South Dunedin which is managed by Bushie, along with some of our lovely Dunedin Peer Supporters. I am also an accredited La Leche League Leader. Aside from my passion to help families with their feeding questions and concerns, I am an animal loving, homeschooling mum, who loves learning and enjoys reading, knitting and a wee bit of crochet! I'd love for all mamas to feel happy about their decisions on how to feed their baby (whatever their choice), and would love them to have the help they need right when they need it, so if you have questions or concerns, before or after your baby is born, then drop me a text or email, or pop in to The Breast Room on a Tuesday or Thursday morning, 10am to midday.
